Kamilah Bywaters

Candidate for Third Vice Chair

Hello Clark Dems,

I am seeking the position of Third Vice Chair of the Clark County Democratic Party because I believe in the power of grassroots leadership and inclusive organizing to create meaningful, lasting change. As an educator, scholar, and community advocate, I have dedicated my life to uplifting all voices and building systems that serve all people, especially those historically left out.

My professional experience as a special education teacher and educational researcher has taught me the importance of listening deeply, collaborating with intention, and pushing back against injustice with informed, compassionate leadership. I currently serve as the Co-Chair of the Las Vegas Alliance of Black School Educators and have worked closely with state and federal partners on equity-focused initiatives in education and public health. I also host a weekly show, Let’s Talk Education, where I engage the community in conversations about justice, access, and accountability.

I bring not only experience but vision. As Third Vice Chair, I will work to expand the Party’s engagement with our community, build coalitions across issues and identities, and ensure that our platform reflects the values of the people we serve. I am committed to growing our base through transparency, collaboration, and year-round organizing that centers our shared humanity. I understand that clubs and caucuses are what keep Democrats involved here in Clark County, and I’m looking forward to working directly with each club and caucus to increase their memberships and support their events and organizing activities. I will also improve communication between the party and the clubs and caucuses by sharing messages and translating grassroots concerns to action within the Party.

The future of our Party depends on leaders who are on the ground, doing the work. I am that leader, and I’m ready to serve.
As a dedicated educator, scholar, and community leader, I bring a well-rounded and intentional skill set to the role of Third Vice Chair. I have over a decade of experience advocating for equity in education and public policy, and I understand how to translate grassroots concerns into action at the institutional level.

My skill set includes:

  • Advocacy and policy engagement: including collaboration with local, state, and federal entities to support our educational community.

  •  Community organizing and coalition building: demonstrated through my leadership with the Las Vegas Alliance of Black School Educators and other civic roles.

  •  Public speaking and communication: honed through my weekly live show Let’s Talk Education and years of community engagement.

  • Leadership and team building: grounded in integrity, compassion, and a commitment to inclusive collaboration.

  • Equity-centered problem solving: using research, identity theory, and lived experience to guide justice-focused solutions.

  • Strategic planning and project management: successfully used to run my first campaign, advocate for systemic change, and launch educational initiatives.

  • As Third Vice Chair, I plan to lead by listening, collaborating, and building trust. I will work to strengthen internal processes, ensure voices are heard, and expand grassroots involvement. My approach to leadership is rooted in service, accountability, and mobilizing people toward shared goals. I am committed to helping the Clark County Democratic Party grow stronger.

Thank you,
